About Plugin Review Lab

Want to know about Plugin Review Lab?

We’re a small team of music producers, mix engineers, and studio enthusiasts who got tired of plugin reviews that just rehash the marketing copy on the sales page. So we built the resource we wished existed — a place where every synth, effect, and sampler gets tested in real sessions, by real producers, before we ever hit publish.

Plugin Review Lab is your independent guide to the world of VST plugins and audio production tools. Whether you’re a bedroom producer choosing your first compressor plugin or a working engineer looking for the next tool to add to your chain, our goal is simple: give you the honest, hands-on information you need to make smart decisions with your money and your time.

Who We Are

Our team includes working engineers who mix commercial releases alongside home-studio producers who understand bedroom-budget realities. That mix is intentional. A plugin that sounds incredible in a treated room doesn’t always translate to a laptop and headphones — and we think you deserve to know that before you buy.

Between us, we’ve spent years working across genres from hip-hop and electronic to rock, film scoring, and everything in between. We use tools like Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, and Pro Tools daily — not because we’re sponsored by any of them, but because that’s what we actually produce in.

How We Review Plugins

Every plugin we review undergoes hands-on testing. We install it, load it up in at least two different DAWs, and use it in a real production context — not just a quick preset scroll. We evaluate each plugin on sound quality, CPU efficiency, preset quality, user interface, workflow, and overall value for money. If we haven’t used it ourselves, we don’t review it. Period.

We don’t try to review everything. Instead, we go deep on the tools that matter most to producers at every level, from free plugins worth downloading to premium tools worth saving up for.

Editorial Independence & Transparency

Trust is everything in this space, and we take it seriously. Our reviews are never influenced by affiliate commissions or manufacturer relationships. The editorial team decides independently what to review and what scores to assign. Ratings are never shared with plugin developers before publication.

Some of the links on our site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you purchase through them — at no extra cost to you. This income helps us keep the site running and the reviews coming, but it never influences our ratings or recommendations.
